Explore the wild and untouched beauty of Zimbabwe, go rafting on the Andes or explore the Thai forest on elephant back. Even before arriving, I was most fascinated with the Capybara, billed as the world’s largest rodent. Although weighing up to 150 pounds, these gentle creatures look more like a giant Guinea Pig than a snarling rat. As a result, one of my chief goals was to see the Capybara while in Brazil. The Tropical Zoo had a family of five Capybara in residence. Having found on the Internet that the local sunrise was at 5:45 AM, I had visions of getting up after 3-4 hours sleep to be at the zoo at that hour for feeding time. I would have presented a comical sight since luckily having slept in, I discovered the Zoo opened at 8 AM not sunrise. I wandered in at 8:30 AM and after visiting the Blue and Yellow Macaws and the Collared Peccaries happened upon Andre en route to feed the Capybaras. I then met with Dayse to learn more about the Amazon wildlife and preservation efforts with follow-up visits that afternoon and on my last day in Manaus.
A few days before our trip, COVID-19 was declared a global outbreak and most states were taking preventive actions such as suspending face to face classes, travel restrictions, raising awareness about wearing a mask and using hand sanitizers. Disney world had also closed temporarily. We were very confused if we should continue with our plan or not. If we were to cancel our plan, it would have cost us $500 atleast as we had purchased non-refundable tickets. travel insurance Also at that time, no one was taking this condition “seriously”. It is better to be prepared than never. Always remember that you are traveling alone, therefore there is no one to easily ask help from incase something urgent comes up during the trip. Additional Recommended Transportation- If you’re traveling solo and don’t mind riding on the back of a moped or motorcycle try GoJek It’s great for short trips and inexpensive too. It was about 1 USD each way.
Like you, we relied upon maps, Mobil Guides, and Triple-A guidebooks when we planned trips in the past. The Internet makes things so much easier in this day and time. One of the most important considerations when traveling is money, saving it and protecting it. Saving money, by selecting the cheapest lodging and airfare you can find, is a great way to make even the most limited travel budget go further. I’ve been told to write less, otherwise the whole lens becomes to big. Besides, all the good stuff is in the BOOK anyway. So into fast typing mode. Getting out of the City was not easy. No road signs. No point asking anyone. Most did not drive a car, nor had most people ventured beyond there own City. So we followed a bus that was heading in the right direction.
