EUROPE. Six years ago, I met Bonnie and Cheryl at Gunflint, when my hiking partner and I decided to paddle part of our intended route rather than risk getting lost on the remote, unmarked and often obscure Border Route Trail These two knowledgeable, capable women were very helpful in outfitting us for our canoe trip, obtaining the last-minute permit, providing us with maps for our route, and picking up the canoe (along with a surprise delivery of fresh strawberries) travel insurance when we left the water a week later to hike the well-maintained Superior Trail I thoroughly enjoyed the paddling and portaging and knew I’d eventually return for more. The original building that now houses the St. Regis Florence was designed in 1432 by Filippo Brunelleschi, famed for his design of the dome of the city’s Duomo. Today, it brims with Murano-glass chandeliers and 16th-century frescoes, and it offers guests spectacular views of the Arno River.

The Good: There are county fairs, theme parks, …and then there is Disney. Build it and they will come, and they have. Disneyland is in a league of its own and sets the very standards the other theme parks across the country and world strive to emulate. In a word it is unique despite its skittish and impatient mascots that seem reluctant to loiter for pictures. The attention to detail of every kind has made Disneyland and the Disney theme what it is today. The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim is complete with a Downtown (shopping), which requires no entrance fee, Disneyland, California Adventure, three hotels, all connected by a monorail and shuttles to and from the expansive parking lots on the east side of Harbor Boulevard. Disneyland is the original Disney theme park and opened in 1955. It has since expanded adding California Adventure and is currently referred to as Disneyland Resort. Call it Disney magic or whatever you will Disneyland has the extra TLC that puts it above the others. The staff is friendly and helpful everywhere with very few exceptions.

When asked why they do not travel, one of the most frequently cited reasons is lack of money. Lack of funds, however, does not need to be a barrier to traveling the world. Obviously if you’re flat broke you may not be able to travel as you wish, but most people have at least some disposable income, and it can be surprisingly inexpensive to travel to many places. I’m hoping that I am helping you realize your travel dreams by introducing you to professional adventure travel companies, so that you experience the world in the company of people who actually care about the places you visit. Thanks for the blessing on Traveling Wilburys. And speaking of traveling, by this time next month we will be full time rv-ers and traveling up to Maine. We know absolutely nothing about this, so will be reading a lot of your lenses as a crash course. I’ve already picked up a couple of tips from here.
