In planning my RTW adventure, I have been giving considerable thought to the options of backpack solo, or booking into an organised tour. Travelling either with family or friends depends upon situation. Thanks for bringing the issue to limelight. I’ve been asked numerous times, How do you find unique dog-friendly attractions?” Well, today’s the day I reveal some of my secrets. Okay, so they aren’t secrets, and I really want everyone to have as much fun on vacation with their dogs as I do with Dexter. Just came across your feature on Crater Lake. My wife and I went there back in 1993, just 17 years ago. Unfortunately that was the only time in Oregon and the USA. Loved it for 21 days. Also stayed in Bend at a condiminium hotel – a ski centre in winter, we were there in July. A stone’s throw from the Taj Mahal, this 102-room Oberoi property is defined by its palatial, Mughal-Moorish architecture, with terraced gardens and serene reflecting pools. Rooms make generous use of marble, teak, and Indian silk — and all of them have views of the iconic monument that draws visitors here in the first place.

Oklahoma City is becoming more and more popular as an arts and culture destination, with a gigantic Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center satellite campus opening this spring. If you’re planning a trip to the city, try staying in this updated and modern hotel. It is also a good idea to make an itinerary, and leave it at home with family members or a trusted friend. Having family members and friends know your itinerary will help them contact you in case of an emergency at home. It travel insurance is also a good idea to keep copies of your identification papers, travelers check numbers, and a photocopy of your passport, at home. My husband and I drove a 1000 miles over 2 days to see our granddaughter ad family. We just didn’t want to have the airport headaches. I use a walker since my 2nd back surgery, so that also makes airports where you walk a long way a headache. We will probably fly next time though as you sure get tired driving back and forth for that distance.

A short walk from Piccadilly Circus, this 160-roomer is particularly known for its spa, Akasha Holistic Wellbeing. Here, all manner of good health promotion is addressed, including nutrition, meditation, and fitness — just the thing to balance out the decadent afternoon tea served in the hotel’s Oscar Wilde Lounge. We decided not to mortgage our home so we could do the boat tour, which is operated by Xanterra Parks and Resorts in cooperation with the Park Service (adults are $28 per person and children are $15 each – our family of 6 would need over $100 for the experience). Safaris and group tours to exotic destinations are great ways to experience the freedom of traveling on your own while still enjoying the safety and security of traveling as part of a group.

Enjoy your trip! We live in a beautiful country and each state is beautiful in it’s own way. We ate lobster in Maine, saw Plymouth Rock. We saw Lincoln’s house in Springfield, IL. We traveled the entire Route 66. We saw Niagara Falls. We traveled through 14 states. When we can travel again, Italy will need us. That old cliché about hospitality being hard-coded into the Italian way of life is actually kind of true. And as a result, the Italian tourism ecosystem is vast. It comprises not just hotels and airports and cruise ships; it extends deep into the country’s socioeconomic fabric. The artisanal businesses that form the backbone of thoughtful travel experiences — boutique winemakers, olive farmers, innkeepers, craftspeople, boat captains, drivers, and, of course, guides — suffered profoundly this year. Some of the most venerated cultural institutions and sites in the world, ones that have shaped many of our lives (and rely enormously on tourism income), suffered, too.
